My Favorite Sites For Booking Flights
Flights are usually the costliest portion of booking your trip. Here are my favorite sites that offer great deals.
TheFlightDeal.com
The Flight Deal is perfect for those looking to be inspired on their travel destination but still want a great deal. It’s a very simple concept, they scour the internet for the best flight deals to places all over the world from 12 top U.S. cities. In every post, they highlight the price, travel and blackout dates, mileage, and the fine print in clear form. They even offer a search platform where you can test dates to get exact prices. Once you’re ready you can easily book on the link provided to ensure you get the same rate.
GoogleFlights.com
I really like Google Flight’s fare calendar and date grid. The webpage is super simple and easy to use. The date grid (below) displays the fare matrix so you can price your trip according to your budget. You can also track prices and get gmail alerts when fares decrease or increase.
Kayak.com
Kayak searches a ton of travel sites and gets you all of their prices in one screen. You can also specify which sites you’d like search. They give you two views: compared results or the compact version. Compared displays all the site you searched as individual screens but all in onebrowser tab. The compact version merges all the various flights into a list, where you can customize further. I always prefer the latter. A few things I like about Kayak:
Highly customizable filters: set landing and departure times, price range, aircraft type, airlines, etc
Hacker fares: combine different airlines to get a better deal
Flight tags: they tag which flights are the best (value wise), cheapest, and quickest
Tracker alerts and advice: offers advice whether to buy now or book later. You can also track the prices via email alerts.
Skyscanner.com
Another great site for searching flights. Skyscanner has an average of 80 million travelers monthly. It has similar filtering and email alerts and the other sites, but what I like most about Skycanner is their fare map. If you’re feeling spontaneous and need travel inspo, their fare map can help in that department! It displays fares to cities all over the world from your departing airport (green=good price, red=pricier than usual).
Secretflying.com
SecretFlying is similar to the The Flight Deal where they highlight special flight deals from all over the world. What sets them apart is that you can search for deals by destination. They clearly state when deals have expired and they also list out the travel dates in which you can get the deal. Click on the travel date and the flight search is automatically populated for you.
